Cork is another material you can use for basement flooring. It is soft and it is considered to be more comfortable than the common concrete floor. Before using it, just make sure that you consult the manufacturer. There is a new method that is gaining popularity very fast – sustainable flooring. In this method, you use carpets, wood flooring and ceramic tiles that contain recycled or biodegradable materials.

Stained concrete can also be used in the basement. The advantage of this is that it can be creatively designed. The problem with this kind of flooring is that it is difficult to walk on and it is very cold in winter. If you are living in areas which easily flood, you can get floating subfloors. There is space between the concrete and the subfloor for water to accumulate during the wet season.
